Improv helps you to let go of needing to know what will happen next, to practice flexibility of thinking and to be ok with changing direction.
Wondering what 1:1 improv would look/sound/feel like?
Curious but nervous?
Well, wonder no more because the fabulous and brave Nikki Butler took part in a 1:1 coaching & improv session and the results were powerful! And hilarious!
Watch the video below to find out how Nikki found tricky words beginning with X and Z in the 'alphabet game' and conjured up an 'interesting' image when she used the term 'budgie smugglers'!
Here is the improv part of the session (coaching part will be available to watch soon).
Nikki stepped out of her comfort zone and let me teach her the skills of improv.
Before long we were creating short, silly scenes 'in the moment' with no pre-planning whatsoever!
Nikki, a recently diagnosed autistic ADHDer felt liberated by not having to plan and prepare what to say - she trusted herself and guess what happened? She nailed it!
Here's what Nikki said about her very first improv experience;
"Even just that short bit of doing some improv, I can see how it would be hugely beneficial for neurodivergent people because your brain is working in a different way"
"It can give you the confidence to know how your brain can work and the power of it in different environments will create more kind of fun and freedom"
"I think that's really powerful. I loved it."
If you want to skip the intro and warm up and get straight to the random comedy scenes then head to 8 mins.
This was part of a coaching & comedy combo session which is available to you if you would like to move forward in your life, build new habits and be confident while doing so.
This really is a unique combination that will literally transform your very being and your life!
If you would like to chat about this awesome combo then do get in touch via DM or book a call
The skills developed in improv are literally skills for a happy and connected life.
Are you ready to accept yourself and your uniqueness?

"The autism training was 'really well structured and delivered'.
The most useful part was 'understanding traits' and how to empathise with those on the spectrum - I now feel more aware and able to support autistic clients.
One of the best training and best delivered courses I've done, thank you".

My mission: to spread the joy of improvisation!
Having discovered comedy improv around 10 years ago I was instantly hooked and I can honestly say it has changed my life!
Believe it or not, I was a very shy child/teen/young adult. I was afraid to speak up in group and public situations. I had certainly never performed.
I now teach comedy improv to beginners. I love it when people realise they can do it!
What exactly is it though? Put simply, it is working with others to create short made up scenes 'in the moment'. You are given a suggestion such as a location i.e. Pyramids in Egypt and you work together to create a short scene.
There is no need or pressure 'to be funny' as the funny happens naturally.
Remember you have no idea what is going to happen or what your scene partner might say next.
This is where the comedy is created - you just respond to each other and will surprise yourself at what your brain comes up with.
Like I said, improv comedy is ‘created in the moment’ so if you are easily bored and don’t like the thought of spending precious time planning and learning lines, it is for you.
In comedy improv there is no time to get bored.
Games are short and different every time.
When improvising you will be hyper focussed on what is happening there and then and on what your response to your scene partner will be.
If you lose track or forget what you said a few minutes earlier this will add to the scene and will likely result in some unplanned humour.
There is structure and freedom within comedy improvisation which you don’t get anywhere else.
Do get in touch if you would like to discuss your comedy needs.
I run a monthly online workshop which is suitable for beginners and those with experience.
I am available to run improv workshops online and in person for:
-
Team building events
-
Hen and stag parties
-
Birthday parties
-
Festivals
-
Any situation that requires a group of people to have fun, stretch their comfort zone and to do something different!
A talented teacher and workshop facilitator, I deliver meaningful neurodiversity training that has an impact.
I work with organisations who want to support people with hidden disabilities and always encourage a strengths based approach which is balanced with an understanding of the challenges people face such as communication, sensory issues, how to support, undoing myths and stereotypes and what not to do/say.
I have delivered successful SPELL autism training within YMCADLG to housing project workers and counsellors. The feedback was excellent and many participants commented on how they thought the training should be compulsory for all staff. People commented on how useful it was to learn from someone who actually experiences autism.
I have delivered autism training to businesses such as David Lloyd and worked with Albion in the community, Brighton and Hove FC's community charity to deliver disability awareness training.
People leave my training with a unique insight into the neurodiverse brain, increased understanding and with practical strategies that can be implemented straight away.
